In 1922 a registered nurse named Melisse Wittler and her sister turned their home in Covina into a seven-bed hospital. It was from those humble beginnings that today’s state-of-the-art Inter-Community Campus of Citrus Valley Medical Center was born. The Melisse Wittler Society collects monies from Inter-Community employees to fund various projects for the hospital. Past enterprises funded by the Society include a new Cancer Van, the Patient Video Theater, and the Employee Fitness Center.
Melisse Wittler Society funds have supported a wide range of programs and purchases at Inter-Community. Here are a few examples of projects assisted by the Melisse Wittler Society:
- Purchasing vital-sign machines, wheelchairs, critical-care beds and other equipment
- Creating the Mammography Screening Center
- Purchasing a Cancer Resource Center van for patient transportation
- Funding for the disaster communications system
Employee Comment:
“I figure I work here; I give back to where I work as a re-investment in my company. So does my husband, who works for Vons.”
